This is for my AP Lit class. I’m getting frustrated because it’s not as good as I expected it to be. It’s very plot-centric, which is great, but I like to read books that are beautifully written. I’m almost done, though.

When the BBC pulled together their list of the nation’s favourite books - the BBC Big Read - they estimated that the average person will have read 6 of them. Just 6 of some of the most popular books of all time! Happily, I think I can say I have read considerably more than 6 (in fact, I’ve read 25).
For the last few months I have been working my way through a bucket list of books. Below is a list of 250 books to read before you die. It’s a compliation list of several lists, including the 200 of the BBC’s Big Reads. I’ve removed The Holy Bible, as I have no intention of ever reading it, and cannot fathom why, of all the religious texts, it’s the only one that features on the lists I’ve found. The choice was add more, or take it off. I took it off.
I’ve gone through and highlighted those I’ve read, italicised those I started but haven’t finished (yet), and put a [x] next to those I have no intention of reading or finishing for whatever reason.
You should do the same, for as Thomas Jefferson said, a room without books is a life without meaning.

And yes, my books are among the books you can vote for, but certainly don’t feel obligated. There are a lot of great books on that list, and when I voted, I didn’t vote for myself!

Sometimes you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book. And then there are books, which you can’t tell people about, books so special and rare and yours that advertising your affection feels like a betrayal.
